Water Jacket Method
As the name suggests, the water jacket method is carried out by filling the vessel with water, which is then loaded into a sealed chamber. The chamber is also filled with water, called a test jacket. The vessel is pressurized for a particular time inside the chamber.
The vessel expands in the test jack, and the water is forced out into a glass tube that measures the overall expansion. Once the total expansion is recorded, the vessel is depressurized and shrinks to its original size. The water flows back into the test jacket as the vessel deflates. At times, the vessel does enlarge to its original size. Hence, the second size value is considered the permanent expansion. The vessel's capability to fit in for the service depends on the difference between permanent and overall expansion.
